08:30 pm - Intercon Roundup Sleepy.
The con was a lot of fun. Friday I played in Time Travel Review Board, a wonderful game. Highly reccomended.
Saturday morning, I ran The Road Not Taken. It went very well. I know I expected one of two extremes, but I think it went close to "exceedingly well," but not to perfect. I will say that a number of people really liked the game and it was, indeed, completely unique in terms of GMing and playing. It will be on my web site for free download this week.
TRNT started out slowly with the players unsure what to do, but they got into it about halfway, and by the end were really into it, playing the game exactly as envisioned. I think the best moment for me was when rigel yelled at the voices in her head to shut up so she could think! That when when I knew the players "got it." I'm going to tweak the player breifing both to let the players know that they can, and should, interact with their voices, and also to give the voices a bit more information about their purpose.
Then i_scribble and I drove to Baltimore for my great nephew's birthday. Yes, I'm old. But also, my sister is about 14 years older then me. Her oldest daughter is only 11 years younger than me. Hence, I'm a great uncle.
Then I drove back to Rehobeth Beach, had an excellent crab dinner and played board games.
This morning, I ran Holiday Season. Like most Sunday morning games, I had to scramble for players. Like Humans vs. Monsters, and TRNT, this game was mostly the players interacting with me watching from the sidelines. I think I was needed as a GM maybe twice during the whole game. I've gotten quite good at designing the games that way. In LoB, I busied myself doing logistics things since the players didn't need me. At Holiday Season, I was at loose ends and didn't know what to do. I wanted to watch, but not interfere. Watching LARP is hard for me; I get ansty. I might get advice from the folks on rpg.net about that.
Then game con wrap and shameless plugs. They announced the winners of the LARP Small Game Contest during my plug for LOB 2, but that was just fine. The Road Not Taken won best small game, 5-12 players. This was not a surprise as it was the only entry. Time Travel Review Board won best large game 12-24 players as well as Best of Show, which is decided by both the runtime scores as well as technical review beforehand (I got my games in too late for technical review). But the big surprise was the winner of the Runtime award, which was Holiday Season. Wow! I knew a number of the players had a really good time, but I was still floored! Thanks folks! I really appreciate it.
Then we finished our plug, which was a singalong of songs from LoB 2 and headed off to the dead dog. LoB 2 is still about a year away and we already have over 50 people signed up (we gained 5 more at the con). I can't imagine it not filling (at 75).
This was a very good weekend and will more than make up for the 12 hours days I'll have to work this week to meet the deadline at work (I got special dispensation not to have to work this weekend).
In any case, The Road Not Taken will be the November download, and Holiday Season will be the December download. Thanks! Have a great week! Exclamation point!

That would be rigel. And I'm almost certain she'd appreciate it if you replaced her real name with her handle, now that you know it.

I'm waiting on Johnson to get out of lockdown (I'm told it's a work thing) to publish the final scores, but I do know that "Road Not Taken" only lost Best Runtime to...
your own..."Holiday Season"...
So even though it was the only entrant, it clearly was a deserving game which did quite well in runtime, and deserves to be taken seriously as a winner.
